My father always says he is the 7th son of seven sons.
His first brother was Clayborn Ellis Landers born in 1917.
Tony was born 18 years later in 1935!
I believe Clay set the bar high for achieving success for his brothers! My father had a long time to watch and learn from his footsteps!
Clay joined the army when he was 18 and served at Fort Riley riding in the last horse regimen. (Wish I had asked him questions about that!)
While in the service he met Chaplain Roy Parker of the United States Army. Chaplain Parker became a good mentor to Clay and encouraged him to go to William Jewell College since he wanted to be a minister. That decision led to a long line of Landers that went to William Jewell making it an important part of our lives!!
He met Marie in a church where he was a pastor and they got married in 1943. He then served as a chaplain in the service in 1944.
Tony was only nine years old then!
I could go on and on about Uncle Clay but let it just be known he dedicated his life to spreading God’s word, building churches and changing lives along the way!
