Wilburn Owen Landers

Owen Wilburn was born in Marmaduke, Arkansas on July 2, 1918.

He went by the name Wilburn or WO and Willie but was also known as “Pup” during his younger years, because he was always bringing home stray dogs. He was a very active guy at Dexter High School, his extracurricular activities included playing football, singing and acting in school presentations. He graduated in May 1936.

Wilburn met Marian McCracken at Dexter High School and they were married in September 1938, in Dexter, Missouri, where they lived until after World War II ended. After high school Wilburn worked as a butcher in Hubbard’s market in Dexter, Missouri until he joined the military. Wilburn and his brother James joined the Missouri National Guard in 1939 at the armory in Dexter, Missouri. Both brothers served throughout World War II and were honorably
discharged after the war. Wilburn attained the rank of First Sergeant. After his discharge he was hired as a sales representative for Mayrose Packing Co. of Saint Louis, MO. Mayrose was subsequently purchased by Swift & Co. Wilburn completed his working career as an executive with Swift.

Wilburn and Marian had three children, Michael (12/5/1939), Elselene (8/25/1943) and Francie (12/23/1952).
Wilburn passed away on February 9, 1974.
